Perch cleaning 101, Some Perch caught in Simcoe

I take another paper towel and dab dry the topside of the fillet.

then I place some plastic wrap down and place the desired portion on it and wrap them.

When wrapped I put slight pressure on the pack to squeeze out as much air as I can.

Then I get a freezer bag, so they are double wrapped. I date the bag and sometimes put where they were caught.

When done and the bag is full in the freezer they go.....all nicely individually wrapped to be taken out when wanted.

The whole process and I am still a bit green, took me 1 hour and ten minutes for 25 fish.

I hope this helps to get some of you started in using a electric knife.

Sometimes I’ll put a straw between the seal and suck the air out. Almost works as good as vacuum sealing.

That works too.....sometimes I vacuum seal the packs but find that easier with bigger fish fillets. Using a food sealer.

I always freeze my fillets in a Ziplock bag filled with water. Keeps them from freezer burn.

Arnie.......I do my perch very similar to yours with a couple of different methods,

1.. never clean perch same day as caught.......next day and way less blood

2. i used to worry about getting all of the fillet, but now just cut down on the ribcage and i lose a small portion of the belly meat.....I'm okay with that as the females get riper and there is less meat there anyhow, but to each their own

3. i also date all bags and locations and even id if they are jumbos or smaller perch and absolutely each bag is filled with water and frozen
