I’m jealous! It’s odd that you simcoe guys are catching so many ling during daylight hours. I mean, I have caught a few over the years in the daytime, but as a rule have to target them at night. This weekend I think it’s time for a ling fling in Muskoka, hope I can get into a few

Yes, it's good surprise for us as well, I don't like night fishing, but this March I've caught 3 lings in day time and zero for the rest of 14 years of Simcoe fishing.

It's not uncommon to catch them during the day when they come up on the shoals to spawn. However, the past few years they seem to be hanging around the shoals and more and more seem to be active during the day. (I know guys are still targetting them at night too.)
I wonder if they are discovering that gobies are an easy meal and are changnig their patterns accordingly. They wouldn't find gobies in the deeper waters they have traditionally frequented.
Like most other fish - they all seem to be feeding on gobies.
Also - Naturefan - great catch and nice way to wrap up the season!

Nice catch indeed...I'm also jealous of those once despised burbot
all I know about them is that when they are in spawn mode it's a mass of writhing numbers of burbot and the lay around 1.000,000 eggs..would be quite the sight

Tough bite today for me but got one for the closer
Nice catch. Tried the afternoon bite, but it was non-existant where I fished. A lone perch saved me from the skunk, but no whitefish to speak of for the closer. Waiting for the soft water opener now.

Hello all fishermen and fisherwomen . I hope every one had a great season with lots of tight lines and enjoyed icefishing on blessed mamma simoce. I was able to go only once and unfortunately hit the wrong spot , had few jumbos but no big game fish. Later due to a back injury had to stay away from the ice and had been taking meds up to this date good thingbis I am ok today. Despite of all Nothing can make me happier rather than seeing you guys had fun and post pics from your catch. Get ready for spring and summer fishing and hope you enjoy open water fishing and I will as well. Don't forget to store your icefishing gears properly for the next ice season. Also many Thanks to the message board admins for keeping this message board going. Best of all to all of you.

Agreed I was only out once this winter as well. A good fishing tale is nice to read anytime. I hope your back is 100% soon and you can enjoy fishing again. Good luck to you and everyone this year. Stay safe.....Also very nice fish and pictures on the original post. Very cool looking fish.
