not personally no.  can't see the point in it myself.  Might taste like beer, but if I want the taste of beer I'm going to drink the real stuff.  On the boat I only drink coffee , than water until home and cleaning fish.

I generally leave the coffee out, and if I'm sweating a lot during the summer I'll down a couple of Powerade or Gatorades. No alcohol in my boat. Unfortunately, years ago I lost a very good friend because of that rule!!

Agreed Lionel. I have lost a few friends in my life from alcohol and drugs. No alcohol or drugs in the boat. Better safe than dead, it's that simple. A few years ago two guys asked me to take them fishing, in their boat. I showed up at a very big house (cottage) on Balsam. This was a very nice, very big boat $$$$$. I saw beer in the cooler and politely told them I could not take them fishing as they already had one or two. Sometimes, some people don't think about what might happen.

I would say Becks is the best non alcoholic beverage. People that don’t understand why someone drinks non alcoholic beer should think before making a comment. I personally like the taste of beer over pop so if I don’t feel like drinking alcoholic beer I’ll grab a non alcoholic Becks.

Gee--I hope people are not taking those comments too seriously and getting offended. I see them as part of the general BS that goes along with fishing and beer drinking(but not simultaneously ). I am pleased to see that so many of you forbid drinking in your boats. I have a canoe so dinking on board is out of the question.

For hydration on hot days I tend to have a few slices of a salami stick or pepperettes to provide electrolytes(salt) with my water. Cheese would also do the trick. I'm not a fan of Gatorade---different strokes for different folks etc etc etc

My reason for not allowing alcohol in my boat stems from an incident that happened in a lake near San Antonio years ago. Someone that I knew took a friend out for an afternoon of bass fishing in his bass boat. The beer flowed freely on a very hot day. His passenger decided in he middle of a run from one location to another to stand up in the boat. He wasn't wearing a PFD (it was on the floor under his feet) and hit the water at 40MPH before my friend could grab him and shove him back into the seat. When he was recovered 2 days later, they found during the autopsy that his BAC was 2.2%. That leads to my other rule in my boat....if you refuse to wear a PFD, stay on the shore. I'm not a strong swimmer, so jumping in to save someone isn't much of an option for me, even with my PFD.

To each their own of course,

For me, water or Gatorade on the boat…..nothing against “near beer” but having it on your breath is just one more thing I don’t want to explain if I’m stopped. How the world has changed….

When I drag raced my Harley or the dirt bike races as a kid. White water rafting or just doing stupid stuff like jumping off bridges or cliffs into the water. This is how I got my adrenaline rush. Too banged up to do that crazy stuff anymore. So the last decade or so has been spent concentrating on just fishing. Fishing has always been the one obsession that brings me both peace and exhilaration.

Reminds me years ago I had many business trips to Sweden where there are similar rules that beer can only be purchased at government-owned/controlled "Beer Store". And to get around this rule, all grocery stores and convenience stores, etc are freely selling LOW alcohol percentage (around 2% and 3%) "beer" which tastes quite similar to regular beer!

No more bud light, no more Budweiser, no more Stella, no more land shark. Anheuser busch is banned from my boats.

All of us are so focused on the “Beer”.

Who noticed the topic was “soft water boating”?
Do we have hard water boating now? 😂😂

Sure there is hard water boating. LOL. Wish I had one of these. Then I could start crappie fishing really early in the spring.

Amen, I've always said if you can't fish without booze, you have a problem.

Mic drop.

In Barrie we have some of the best microbreweries around. Barnstormer, Red Line, Flying Monkies, to name a few. What's with all the mainstream American beer? This is the north, it's too cold to drink terrible beer up here lol I get why they drink watered down mild beer in the south, because it's so dang hot... they need more water than alcohol to stay hydrated.

That said, alcohol is the worst drug you can take for your health. So everything in moderation Hey, don't take it from me—addictioncenter rates it higher than fentanyl.

Water and Gatorade are the best options on the water if you want to stay hydrated and your wits with you. Coffee gets cold. If you need a kick, bring an energy drink.

Wow…never expected such a diverse discussion. Let me start with a clarification. I don’t drink any alcohol on my boat or on any other motorized vehicle. It was not my intent to suggest drinking and boating. Water or tea is about all I drink on my boat. I had a thought that perhaps bringing ice cold non-alcohol beer on the boat might be a good idea. However as was pointed out why risk a conversation about beer on my breath, even if it is non-alcohol beer, with York Region’s finest. So bad idea on my part but great discussion none the less.

Hope to see you on the water sometime this summer. Have a safe one.

I thought it was a great post because it did create a very good discussion. There is a definite market out there for alcohol free beer.
