And this is the water boiling with fish. Some of them jump right out of the water when they are startled. Cast a bait into the turmoil and catch a crappie.

Thanks for the report Jamie!
As always very informative and nice pictures as well.
I never witness such a big school of feeding crappies boiling on the surface. it's amazing.
The bluegill and bass and crappie stick tight together in the areas I fish in the spring. So there could be 25-50 bluegill 5 bass and 20 crappie in that turbulent section of water. The weird part is that it went on day and night for two days, in many different spots, the area of a football field. One school would move then triggering the next and then the next and so on. It looked like the wave at a Yankee or Blue Jay game. I cheer for both teams, been a Yankee fan since 1st grade. Blue jays didn't show up until 1977. Then on Thursday the fish were all gone to deeper water. Weird hot spring with a big weather change around Monday.

Great job CM and great report and photos. I can’t wait for the park to open and for walleye opener, there might be still some straggler crappie around then amongst the boats. Good luck and stay safe

Thank you again for the replies. I am looking forward to seeing some crappie pictures from you guys out there. I am done with crappie until walleye opens. Even with the weather changing on Monday, the crappie will be spawning earlier this year. I try and avoid crappie when they are in prespawn...spawn... and when they are guarding the nests. There is lots in the freezer so no need to catch any more. Good luck to anyone going out to catch some today and tomorrow. You will find them in 5 to 10 feet of water, and they will be very aggressive. Your bait should be 18 inches below the surface. Greens and black colours on a pink or white jig head, keep it natural looking today except for the pink jig head. Don't be afraid to speed up your baits today. They should be feeding like Piranha. Shallow crankbaits will work today for sure, silver and gold colours. I am not joking about watching the Osprey when they are out. If you see one of these birds catch a fish, that is an area you should investigate. Osprey, loons, muskrats, and otters know where to catch fish. Stay safe out there.
