Well the weather wasn't the greatest yesterday, but got a couple hours of fishing in after getting the cottage opened up for the season. Brought up the fly rod to fish the shallows for crappie. Struggled through the rain and managed enough for a couple good dinners.

Nice fish! Love fishing the fly rod also, so much fun. Can’t wait to get out for the blue gill bite on the fly. Congrats on your success!🙂

Nice. A good way to open the cottage for the season. Never thought about using a fly rod for them.

Nice haul Chaz and well done!

Looks like a blast, flyfishing for crappie

I have a fly rod as well, but sadly I hardly ever use it.
My bad, I need to dust it off and give it a go..

May I ask what fly or pattern you used? Dry surface fly, nymph, streamer or wooly buggers?

Those crappie are going to taste great. What a great idea using a fly as the crappie are so close to the surface in the shallows. Some spots I fish for crappie in the spring my jig head under a bobber, is only 4 to 6 inches under the surface. Today would be a good crappie rain day.

I was using a 9 ft 5/6 weight floating line with a 4lb test tapered leader. It was definitely a lot of fun. Also caught a lot of sunfish on it as well.

Good haul of crappies !
Long time ago I bought a fly rod and was practicing casting but when I started fishing I had a hard time visually detecting a bite when the line moves so I gave it up .
It’s a fun sport for sure
