Hi all, With the weather and water starting to warm up, I decided to break out the fly rod in search of a good bluegill dinner. Wasn’t disappointed yesterday when I arrived at one of many spots that I’ve had luck at before. First cast to the inside edge of a deeper weedbed and the surface exploded with a great take of my tiny white popper. After landing that beauty of 9”, I camped out in the same general area for the next hour or so and boated around 40 quality fish. Ended up keeping 14 males for the frying pan. So much fun on the fly rod, one of my favorite ways to fish…. Also landed a very nice largy that must have been hungry for an insect breakfast, which was quickly released. Fishing with flies wil only get better in the next few weeks, so get out there and enjoy your time on the water.🙂

Well, after any amazing bluegill dinner on Monday night, wifey told me she would like me to go out and catch some more! So, being the good husband I am, I went out yesterday morning, early, and found the gills cooperating. The bite was incredible on the fly, so much fun! Caught over 50, kept a mere dozen for the table. The lake was like glass for the first few hours, which makes for an excellent visual take of the floating flies I like to use. The next few weeks are going to be exceptionally good as the head to the shallows to bed up and spawn.
Truly one of my favorite times of the year to catch some true giants, 10+ inchers, but as always I release those big girls to keep the population thriving. Good fishing to all!!!🙂

Thanks All!
Went back out this morning for a couple hours. Crazy good bite today on the fly rod! Caught 20+ crappies, 30+ big gills, 4 nice bass, 5 pumpkinseeds, and one nice rock bass. 5 different species in 2 hours . A good morning for sure. All fish were C&R’d…..
