I'm new to this area , we came here 6 years ago . From Timmins On. I love to catch and eat smelts but I haven't heard of good spots near here . I now live in Jacksons Point . Haven't even fished this lake ever .Heard it has huge bass , whitefish and even lake trout . Where is the closest place to catch smelts even if we have to go to Lake Ontario to get some ? To bad the smelts aren't doing good in this Lake Simcoe . Hope they come back .April 27/23

I haven't fished for smelts in quite a few years. I have noticed, however, that I am seeing more schools of smelt when I'm fishing in the winter. I'm not sure where or when they spawn, but the population seems to be slowly increasing.

Definitely smelts in lake simcoe. I have underwater footage of massive schools of smelts in 80-100fow. I have also caught some above average smelts every year accidentally when fishing for perch.
