Fishing the small lake I like to fish, chasing lakers today, couldn’t get them to commit like previous trips. Unlike previous trips where the sun was hot and lake calm, today was overcast and light wind, and on the cool side. Had a few bites from lakers in 60 fow but we were moving around trying to find consistent bait, ended up where I always ended up near one of the basins, fishing on top of 15-20ft of bait. I tell my buddy to watch the bait and when it suddenly disappears, be ready for a laker rocket….. no sooner did I say that and the bait cleared out in an instant and I see fish hot in my buddies trail about 3-5ft off bottom, and fish on! Great fight, I see some vicious head shakes and I tell my buddy I’m sure he has a nice laker…. I grab the net and at the ready…. I see the fish come up, and turn broad side, and I see a beautiful purple stripe…. Holy carp it’s a Rainbow!!! Had heard of the odd rainbow being caught on this particular lake due to some escaped fish from an illegally stocked private lake, something to do with a beaver dam blow out. It was great to see. My buddy was not expecting that and he deserved it after having a few skunk trips. He caught the Unicorn.
We putted around for lakers some more, didn’t see any then I said let’s go try the other small basin, so we set course and had to cross over a large 25ft flat that saddles the basins, there were some large marks suspended a few ft off bottom, so I stopped the boat and said let’s try… the marks were huge, and we ended up getting into a flurry of whitefish action. It was the last 45min before the rain and we went 3 for 7 on the whitefish and missed a pile more in that short window. As we packed up we drifted over half that flat and marked big whitefish all along in 20-25fow. Logged that in my memory banks!
Fun day. I send my buddy home with all the fish as he drove a ways to come fish.

That was lucky day! Congrats!
Luck!! I'm surprised the guy can sit down in his boat with those horseshoes sticking out of his but. Mind you, skill just might have something to do with it too.

Where you using the vibrato for the whitefish too?
Yea 7g. They were aggressive and often all three hooks of the treble were set in their tiny mouth. These particular whities had extra small mouths I noticed.
