Our boat has been on a cottage dock for the past 18 summers so I have not fished Lake Ontario for a long time. I had to bring the boat home to work on it so my son convinced me to take a day and try downrigging again.
We launched at Promenade early in the morning and ran to our fishing grounds in the dark. We quickly got setup and started tripping rods right away. I had to get used to setting two rods per person and after a couple tangles and mishaps we got things sorted out. The action was steady with small salmon at first but we ran into some in the teens and another that we guessed as around 20 pounds.
My son hooked a nice bow as he was letting out a blue and silver Lyman on a leadcore line. It gave him quite a surprise!!!!
We used many old lures such as Apex, Evil Eyes and a watermelon NK.
Here’s a few pics.
