I know for sure it helps the sink rate with small tungsten jigs through the ice.  I have 5lb fluoro on my stradic 1000 and it works mint!!  I only noticed the change when I realised that I had forgotten to change my spool from spring mode to winter mode. haha (I have a spare spool)

But what a difference in the sink rate from 8lb mono to 5lb fluoro let me tell ya!!

ya, it sinks for sure vs mono

Just out of curiosity, last winter I did a calc to find out the diff. Based on 50 ft of 8# test and using the values for density and diameter I found on line the diff was about 1/64th of an ounce.

Yes, that's great to see the calculation. Maybe the better sinking rate is also related to the lack of water absorption and the slickness of the line through water so all combined, allows the tiny lures to sink faster and appear heavier?
