We’re mid December. I think it’s about time to talk ice conditions on Simcoe.

I would imagine Couch being just about there for walking traffic. My focus is on cooks bay next and ultimately Kempenfelt bay. I haven't driven out personally, just wondering if anyone has updates as weather has been favorable since last year which was horrible.

Saw a pic of the very end of cooks with ice but not that far out.

Need some calm days and nights. Seems like decent temps but the wind has been pretty high lately.

I am hoping for an ice fishing trip more north before the new year.

Gonna checkout Lake st john and cooch today. Just moved back to the area, seems like a snowy year for us walkers.

Simcoe is still too warm to form and hold ice beyond shorelines - reporting 4.7deg average in Cooks as of yesterday. We need some double digit overnights to bring it down and the cold wind helps bring the temp down faster than still air.

Hard cold snap coming Dec21-23, then back up to the freezing point and holding until the new year.

Hard water for Simcoe opener seems unlikely, but not impossible if temps are bit cooler than forecast.

Great info on this page: https://seatemperature.info/lake-simcoe-wat...emperature.html

Very interesting. It’s actually great it’s averaging 4.7. This means ice will soon form. Water is at its maximum density at 4 degrees Celsius. This means at 4 degrees Celsius that temp water sinks to the bottom and lower temp waters rise up. Sounds funny but 4 degree water will cause water at 3,2 or 1 degree to be forced to the surface and that water will freeze faster.

All we need is that average temp to drop .7 of a degree.

Ya I’m hoping for fast ice with no snow up north where we fish near parry sound. Would be nice to get an extra trip this year..
