I forgot to add my date. We’re going up late this coming season. I have a long 81 days to go. March 7 can’t come too soon.

the last couple of years that date has been questionable at best Hope this coming year will be better

You are making me nervous Dickie

Well that is not my intention. Last year I was supposed to fish with greening bay cottages around the 10th of March but it got cancelled on me at the last minute due to sloppy ice conditions. I do not think that the ice got any thicker than 16 inches last year which is quite unusual for Nip. I do think it will be better this year. Last year the ice bungalows were delayed and at times you could not drill holes inside due to flooding. Keep up the faith.

Last year was the first time ever that i have not the fished the closer on the 15th. Been some other years where it was close but always managed it except for last year.

That being said i am not in a bungalow or even a seasonal hut. I think there has been the odd time in the last number of years and especially last year where the operators pulled out early in order get their stuff off in a timely safe manner.

Last season the most ice i measured in any hole was 12 or 13 inches. Numerous days and locations spread over the season and that was it.

We are hoping for enough ice to fish the opener with Bear Creek but our annual trip is in 29 days (Jan 22) with Craft’s. last year was supposed to be our first year with Crafts after our original date got pushed back to the first week of March but as everyone knows, all the operators pulled the huts early so it got cancelled. We are all so pumped to get back at it. Fingers crossed for a great ice season for everyone! Tight lines and be safe!

It looks like that is going to be a 5 km walk to get to the northern most point of those islands... closer to 10 km if you want to get to the southern most area.... Joe.. when you sled out where do you start from ?

I typically get on at Wade's Landing Fish Bay Marina area but only because it is 5 minutes from my place. From Fish Bay it is a long haul of about 20 km but not a problem with the sled and depending on conditions can take from 25 minutes to over an hour if it is foggy out.

Closest you can get on the north shore is still gonna be just over 5km. Deepwater pt. to the south is 7 or 8 km to the SE corner of the island group.

On foot you could also run into extra miles trying to find places to cross pressure cracks. No matter how you slice it Manitous on foot would make for a hell of long day and other than some young really fit guys would be a non-starter for most.

We fished with Bear Creek a number of years ago the last week. We booked mid-week and they cancelled all remaining bookings while we were there.
We were literally the last group of the season.

The ice was good, but there was a warm spell and conditions sucked. Every year is different (Ie; last) but they told us then it was easier to leave the huts until everything drained off.
