Wow!! Spring crappie fishing must be on fire!! Word must be out. Not my cup of tea,to fish amongst the crowds. Kinda reminds me of fishing the Detroit River back in the day on a weekend……. Btw, fished yesterday, bite was OK, took home 6 males for dinner and released at least 14 big spawners…..

Scugog was a zoo yesterday as well. A couple spots had queues of people waiting to get their turn to fill their bucket. We could see mostly small ones being caught so tried our luck looking for staging fish without success. I like fishing and really would like to figure crappie out, but poling them out of a boat launch tied to the dock with another boat a couple meters away isn't what I call fishing.
Lots of stuff floating on the water, too. Scugog is remarkably clear compared to previous seasons, and the weeds are just sprouting on bottom.
Take Crappeeeman's advice and be careful out there! Even had some new floating islands that had broken off from shore and were adrift.

This is today. If we all did not have enough to do, cleaning up from the ice storm.Time to clean up the shoreline after all these anglers leave. Brand new Tim Hortins coffee cups, cigarette butts, plastic bait bags, lunch rapper bags, chocolate bar wrapping etc. It's the same every spring. I counted over 20 boats so far and 2 or 3 per boat. This is just one spot. I visited three spots today on my travels. The only thing these anglers from the city contribute to the community is garbage. Day after day the same boats catching their limit, only to return the next day, to poach more crappie and other species as well. Very hard to prove for the authoroties, but you can't follow every angler back to the launches.
What a gong show! Thanks for reminding me why i am so lucky to able to go off grid remote access whenever i want. Can't even get my head around that pic - i thought it was fake at first until i read your description.

Yes, you are very lucky as well as other members that live near more secluded lakes. The part that is just disappointing, is the greed, and the garbage. We have all heard of fish stocks being depleted by over fishing. This was day 11 of the fishing frenzy. Yesterday only 14 boats, and today only 8 boats. The one good thing about this particular species, is that crappie are like weeds. You can never seem to get rid of all the weeds. Some people say it's only crappie and they are an invasive species in these lakes. Very true, but for me crappie are it, and walleye are a very close second. I do have a few isolated quiet places to fish that no one has found. The darkness keeps me hidden all night, to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds. Catching some fish for the family, is just a small reward for respecting Mother Nature.

Went out on Sunday to search ol' Scugog for crappie and came up empty handed. But did some exploring and found a few more potential spots that I hadn't known about before.
Too bad that lake is so full of weeds in the summer, it's such a different - and much nicer - waterbody in the spring before the weeds fill in.
