A few days ago, I spoke to a couple of older guys loading their boat at the Rosedale bridge. They had fished Balsam with disappointing results. They caught a lot of OOS Bass, nbut o Walleye and only 1 nice pike. The were disappointed as their target fish was Walleye. Apparently there is little to no weed growth, as of last week, which, in their opinion, was the reason for no Walleye action. , They're likely right, if your fishing in normal weed growth areas.
That said, the Walleye ARE somewhere, just not in traditional weed areas. I offered my good luck next time, as they didn't look like quitters.

Balsam is always a week to ten days behind the other Kawartha lakes for weed growth. If you want to find the walleye, look for the water with current. Walleye have just finished spawning and are cruising the shallow water deeper pockets of moving water looking for minnows. The mid lake walleye will be at the very bottom of the humps, and will not move up until the evening. I was on Balsam last night with my friend. We talked to two other boats at the launch and they only caught one each. I asked where they were fishing and was told in the bays. We'll there you go, wrong place, wrong time. Of course there is a chance of catching the odd walleye here and there. In this day and age with social media, all you have to do is watch, read or ask someone for advice. Information on fishing. It's all out there, you just have to apply it to the similar lakes you fish. We are not looking for flying saucers, it's just a walleye. Crappie are illusive after the spawn, walleye are predictable. Look up the couple walleye videos InformativeAngling has put up or ask a board member or if you like ask me. We caught walleye last night on Balsam, but there was also a very intrusive muskie getting on my last nerve. LOL. The details will be up on my post in a bit.
