Looking to take some friends to some small water where their guarenteed to catch bass and pike regardless of size. I heard Mitchell fits the bill pretty good. Wondering if its worth the trip, heard it gets really shallow and weedy and is hard to get around in. I have 17 foot fish and ski and was wondering if lakes condition would make it too much of a hassle.

I was there last week in a 17ft boat. I didn't think much of the lake, but it was for one day. Very weedy, lots of stumps
Just my opinion.

Take them to balsam. Guarantee bass and pike.

I've heard good things but have fished it 3x and never caught much. The lake sure looks like it should hold fish, and there's usually other boats out there, but we've not had great luck ourselves.

I agree with Mcc.
Take the channel directly to Balsam Lake. You likely won't regret it.

Mitchell lake water level is about 4 inches lower than it should be, at this time of the year. Down 4 inches is a lot when you factor in the shallow shoreline and heavy weed growth in the last month. Not sure when you were planning your trip, but I would choose Balsam everytime over Mitchel. Approximatly 40% of my fishing is on Balsam, and 50% on Sturgeon. The next 5% is a secret. The last 5% is an even bigger secret. Balsam water level is just about where it should be right now. A few of us have replied to your inquiries, just curious to know how you made out on your pike fishing on Balsam last year. Or your pike fishing on Simcoe this year.

Mitchell was always my least favourite lake to fish in the chain of Balsam -> Mitchell -> Canal, possibly one of my least favourite places I've fished. It's only a few feet deep and absolutely full or weeds. If it gets windy, keeping the boat from blowing into the shallow stuff becomes an issue. I've caught a couple bass and small pike there, but I'd choose pretty well anywhere else to fish, personally.
