Took off to my spot around midnight and there was still some rain coming down. Been fishing this spot on Balsam, seems like forever. Never anyone around, in fact there has never been a boat closer than 100 yards to me out there. Just the one time a boat was passing by and must have saw my headlamp on, and the engine cut and they stopped. I could hear two voices but was unable to make out what was being said. Fishing in the dark has its advantages, but if someone sees you it's over. Your secret spot will be gone forever, and so will the solitude, and maybe even the fish. I retreated back into the tree line for a few long minutes, then the motor powerd up and they were gone. Not sure if they were fishing or just passing by and looking at the stars. Last night there was not many stars, still wet walking through the trees. Fishing was hit and miss from about 12.30 until after sunrise. A bit of wind and very damp, with some mist. Maybe a dozen eleven and twelve inch walleye in the first couple hours.

Moved down the shoreline, only about 20 yards but it is slightly deeper there. Nothing, no hits anymore, not one. About two hours later one hit that's it. Somewhere around 4.30 caught a nice walleye around 28 inches. Then another around 26 inches, and a third around 27 inches. Then nothing again until pack up and leave time. I let all the fish go, and now it's time for sleep. Old friends coming up at dinner to go fishing later. We will keep some fish tonight if we find them out there. Stay safe.

Nice fish! Glad you made it out there! That headlamp is a double edged sword, I bet its very easy to give up your secret spot with it on!
Thank you and yes, a moving light sticks out in the dark. That's why it's off 99% of the time. A light also spooks the walleye and crappie, so I turn my back to the water when it is on. My friends cancelled because they said it was going to rain again. So my other friend and I will go try and catch some to eat. Should have kept one big one from last night. Hopefully Mother Nature is kind to me again. And it's not going to rain tonight. This is the only dark cloud in the sky and it's heading south.

Your dedication to fishing at night, in the rain is impressive. Not many are zoned in enough to fish during those conditions. You definitely deserve the action. I'm sure the fish would prefer you stayed at home more, or fished in the day time, preferably in bright sunlight....lol. Great post, as usual.

I'd be happy with just one of those! Great job, as others have said, you've earned the the results you get.

those are some big walleye. sounds like you still got lots of fish. Yeah you don't want that spot to get out or you won't have it any more.
Thank you sir, everything seems to grow bigger on Balsam. The walleye, crappie, muskie etc. It seems greedy of me not to share that area with anyone. Many people have asked about it. It is very conflicting knowing if that is the best thing to do. Keep it hidden, or share it with a friend.

Thanks Fozzy, the perfect weather forecast would be a bit of sun with some clouds mixed in. 20 degrees during the day, and down to 5 degrees at night with a slight SW breeze. That's my perfect day.

Bugs were really bad for a few hours. The fishing was very weird, catch a fish then wait. I bet there was only one fish every two hours. Caught 3 walleye and 4 crappie. Kept these 3 for later. Did a few quick chores and got all the bug spray off me. Going to sleep a bit now.
