hello forum members,
Can someone please help me decipher the mish mash we call our fishing regulations? After reading the catch and possession limits for lake Nipissing i'm more confused than ever. If i have a Sport Fishing license how many walleye am i allowed to bring home in 1 day and what size of walleye can i keep and what size has to be released?
I will be fishing out of Hunters Bay Marina and fishing the South Bay and Callander Bay portion of the lake.
The regulations can be very confusing especially considering the exceptions and specially designated areas with different regulations.
Can someone help me with a simplified answer to what stays and what goes back?

Hi.
You can have 2 Walleye in your possession between 40-45 cms with a sport license. None less than 40 cms, none greater than 45 cm. It is a possession limit not daily. FYI - there is also a slot for norther pike, not more than one greater than 61 cms, none greater than 86 cms.
Very simple - keep a measuring tool closeby - if between 40-45 with a pinched tail, you can keep...if not, release. If close, I would suggest releasing. I live on the lake and fish almost every day - COs are out regularly, which is a great thing as the fishery is amazing thanks to the slot and the adjustments that have been made.

Those replies are 100% correct. If you have specific questions on anything that may be confusing, you can always call the MNR. This Fishing Forum is a great place for questions and answers. There are so many good people on here with decades of experience that are willing to share their knowledge. But if you are still not sure about something, it's never a bad idea to talk on the phone. The phone number I use is 1-800-387-7011. It does take a few minutes and you may be on hold for a bit. I hate when people say they can't get answers when they call the MNR. If anglers are serious about fishing, they will wait to get the correct answer from the MNR. Even if it takes 5 or 10 minutes, it's worth it.
