Quick weekend camping trip in the Park’s interior. Flat back canoe/Honda 2.3 and a quest somewhere new for lake trout. Had a few portages, a meandering river, and a couple lakes to cross, one of which is around 10km long. 1.1L tank in the outboard and we made it almost the full 10km, motor cutting out about 100 yards from our portage at the far end of the lake out of gas after a 1hr trip wide open.
Made it in to a campsite around 9pm after cutting out of work an hour early, set up watched an amazing sunset and then hit the sack. Up Sat morning for the best sunrise I’ve ever seen, at 5:30 and started exploring the lake. Supposedly good lakers here and lots of water to fish. Jigged, trolled wire, cousin trolled lead-core fished shallow, fished deep etc. marked a million fish. East wind all weekend - not sure I’m totally convinced that that equals bad fishing, but after some online reading, it seems most fisherman are. Turns out it was a tough day for us. Caught a few o.o.s. Smallies, and only managed 4 lake trout - first of which I snagged on the top of the head - a sure sign that the fish are not ‘ON’ and just following and curious about the lure.
Anyway, perfect amazing campsite miles in the bush, very few other humans around - almost had the giant lake completely to ourselves (just a couple park wardens who were doing a permit check) great sunsets and top notch sunrise. Bunch of work and some hills to haul canoe/packs up, great weekend regardless of the slow fishing.
Saw and heard loons (the lake-echoing calls as you’re passing out in the tent never get old) a big snapping turtle and a young moose in the river, a doe and fawn walking in the water along a shoreline and had a couple nice meals. Way too quick of a trip but any time in the park is worth it.

That looks fantastic. Gotta love skipping the big launch lakes and getting right in there as quick as you can. I used to use the evinrude Jr. I think mine was 1.5hp.
