Took a road trip to central Ontario for a few days and settled on a lake with a healthy population of lakers. After a few months of not wetting a line, I was itching to get back on the water. We went 6 for 8 on the lakers. First few hours on the lake we trolled and did not get a hit. Switched to jigging a white tube and we connected with fish right away…. We also tried a couple of times for brookies on nearby lakes but got skunked. The only thing biting were the bugs.

Beautiful lake trout with some very colourful fins for this time of year. An owner of a bait shop in Temagami once told me the more orange the fins, the more orange the flesh will be. I don’t believe that is accurate at least from my experience. Genetic variation and the fall spawn are the main factors.

I’ve caught them with varying degrees of orange fins, but have never seen any lakers with fins that are almost red like that, very interesting looking fish, nice catch

A fish like that is replica worthy for the colouring alone. Very nice. Was it a clear lake or a stained lake? Does it have smelts or herring for feed?
Not much intel on this lake as it was my first time in this area/lake. The lake is somewhat stained but I was still able to see rocks about 5 feet down.
