Nice calm day forecast for yesterday, so my buddy Phil and I decided to hit Meaford again.
It was calm alright, no wind at all and a hot day.
Ran out to 80fow and set up. Didn't mark anything, so after 20minutes we pulled up and headed over to the tank range area where we caught fish last week.
Set up in 130fow, with my Shoehorn Wonder Bread and we are marking fish near bottom. My rod fires and I bring up a laker in the 5-6lb range and lose it at the side of the boat.
Continued to mark fish, but no further action and I'm changing and trying different lures. Some of the fish we were marking were at mid depths, so PHil decides he is going to fish Rapalas and see if he can hookup.
I thought, if we have salmon around, what is my best salmon lure? Put on my green white ladderback Lyman and down she goes. Within 15 minutes the rod fires=fight on. Not a salmon, but a 6lb laker--see picture.
Within 20 minutes the rod fires again and this is a laker around 3lbs--no pic.
We contnued marking fish sporadically, but no takers. I kept changing lures and ran a cheater. Phil stuck with his Rapalas. I had one more hit which I suspect was on the cheater as there was nothing there when I tightened the line.
