Sun peeking over the hill, first couple hours were actually not bad at all, sun on my back, no wind - I stayed surprisingly comfortable for sitting out on a pail.

Got a bunch of herring, larger than usual for here, 13-15”, just one solo fish would appear at a time, which is odd. Not sure if it was my depth or the start of the season or what, normally they travel in large schools. Anyway, they’re big enough to make a meal out if instead of the usual 10-11” ones I keep for bait, so I’ll give them a go. Also, caught one dink perch, and no lakers, two entries for the LSO derby

I worked until noon then got into lake around 2-4pm. Found some tiny whitefish myself. A little C and R. A small laker as well, nothing brag worthy. But nice to be out in the crisp air. I had about 6-8” ice. Minimal slush good walking.

The haul….. four or five biggest ones all full of eggs - maybe most of the population are spawning in shallower, which is why I saw no big schools. Maybe the lakers are hanging around the spawn sites to feed, which is why I saw no lakers. I dunno

Very cold this morning. The lack of wind and nice sun sure helped alot to not freeze...literally. Cool herring. Haven't caught one since my Simcoe fishing days. Let us know how you like eating them and how you decided to cook them.
