The old Provincial License system that was Free and Life time of boat ownership had the exact same information as the new Federal Registry.

TC managed to emplace a "Registry" for commercial vessels in Canada back in 2011, many commercial boat owners across the country still have not registered , many dont even know about it - old Tin can camp boats in the bush, lakeside accommodations with small boats, real estate agents, etc. etc.

Every "Registry" of Boats in Canada for Inland waters boats is a pure money grab and job creation for TC - provides no value to Canadians.

Federal Vessel Registries should be for Ocean Going Vessels - period.

They claim the funds they get will be used to clean up old abandoned boats - but Federal Employees are VERY expensive, fees will likely not cover the cost of the Federal Government Administration of the Registry.

Pump in your boat License number and this will populate a date your license expires.

To be frank, having a number on your boat allows LE to check the owner in case of emergency, stolen property, safety concerns etc...

A lot of people were purchasing boats and not changing over the ownership to beat the taxman.

As a former LE officer myself, this up to date info is invaluable.

So you pay an administration fee. It takes people to manage this system. They don't work for free. It's simply a cost recovery fee.

The Provincial license System REQUIRES a number on your boat.

Information is changed when ownerships are changed.

Having a FEDERAL system WILL NOT change anything, if new boat owners do not change over the registration - Federal or Provincial - ZERO difference

If they required a 5 year update on provincial licenses - ZERO difference

ZERO BENEFIT to Canadians

This is a PURE MONEY GRAB by the Federal Government

DO NOT Register - tell your MP Canada would like to maintain the Provincial FREE LIFETIME license of boats.

Job creation program by Transport Canada for themselves.

So I buy a boat, never sell it, never move -for 40 years - I have to give the EXACT SAME information to the Federal Government at least 8 times and pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars for that useless waste of time - and likely the management of this "Registry" will cost taxpayers millions more as the fees will not cover the huge wages of the administrators.

The Federal Government is currently trying to reduce employee numbers - this unneeded and ZERO benefit department - all Federal Boat Registry's for inland waterways - would be a great place to start.
