Has anyone been out on LOB yet? Haven't been able to get up there myself yet. Thanks in advance. PM if you want.

People are fishing and some snow machines here and there but it seems like it's mainly in some smaller bays that ice over earlier vs. other parts of the lake that are exposed to wind. If you fish in a part of LOB that gets ice early, then it maybe okay. As always be careful as always with early ice. I know there are spots where there are spring and ice is always thinner in those areas...and of course current areas.

Should be good everywhere by now, may be questionable on any narrows or current areas the rest will tighten right up by the weekend

Thanks guys... was thinking of walking out from Norway Point out toward Bigwin Island. That is a narrows so hopefully it is solid! I am not exactly experienced what it comes to ice-fishing but going to try my luck there or maybe east side of Simcoe with my little guy tagging along..Safety is obviously my main concern!

Cheers and good luck to all!

Update on LOB ice. I heard from a friend who lives by the water. There was only barely 4" of good ice but even that ice had bubbles in them. He saw snowmobiles go by last night and thought it must be pretty good ice until he went out to see. There is about 6" of snow on top of 2" of slush on top of a thin crust of crappy ice over a thin layer of water before you hit the good ice. He said it was brutal walking out...he wasn't fishing but walking the dog but walked out to fish grounds. So, not all of LOB has plenty of ice. For some, maybe 4" is plenty, for me, I wouldn't call that plenty but everyone has their comfort zones...good for walking and clearly some snowmobiles (but they were running and not stopped). The cold that is coming should reduce the slush but more snow is coming as well so...

Jan. 22 conditions: about 1 foot of powder snow on top of about 6 inches of slush -- brutal. We only got about 200 yards offshore and not even close to our fishing area. Our flip-overs were acting like snow plows sitting on top of our smitty sleds.

I'd imagine that the conditions charged some since it was -36 in Dorset yesterday morning?

Sorry to hear about the brutal conditions. It's deflating for sure. Hope there was still some action or marks on your sonar even though you guys were not able to get out to where you wanted to fish.
