World Record Trout Group: Members Posts: 4145 Member No.: 18589 Joined: September 15, 2020	I wrote a comment on the Lake Simcoe board because the same thing can and has happened before out on Simcoe. Still can't believe they were out there knowing the bad ice conditions. On a warm sunny day, bad ice conditions can and will worsen quickly with the wind.

its the wind, they were promising 35/gust 50 SW. The ice was 12" on Thursday there, but may have been eaten by the rain Friday
Same thing happened in Feb 2014 at Oro 4, when the main lake did not freeze, was open, and 60+ gusts from the West ripped off the ice flow with a bunch of ppl. The accounts of the event could be still in archives of this site
