River fishing, Got a couple

Went out steelheading near the end of February with my brother. We picked the perfect day with thawing temps and sunny skies. We got four steelhead altogether and all on spoons.There were other guys fishing with floats that were doing well also.
We will have to wait for a bit to fish the river after this last melt….. might take a week for water levels to subside.

Awesome that you're able to get them on spoons while everyone else is watching floats, I'd much prefer to catch them that way as well. I'm hoping to get out to do some shore casting soon. Do you find any difference in the meat quality of the fish during the spring runs?

I always find males are the best to eat especially in the spring.That being said we had a couple hens we kept in our catch and the meat was bright orange and delicious.

I find they hit spoons fairly hard and you tend to catch bigger fish. Ive had them hit so hard they will almost rip the rod out of your hands and other times they are just there.

Some really nice fish. I've never done that kind of fishing. Those thick things must put up some fight.

Awesome catch. In your first pic, that’s one of my favourite spoons/colour for lakers and specks in Algonquin.

I throw that lure a bunch for steelhead but never use it in the park. Im going to pack a couple in my trip kit and try them in the park this year.
