No there is no open water on Balsam. Posted this picture five days ago and the lakes are getting thinner. Balsam is always the last to thaw out. What did you want to fish for?

How’s the lake looking? Are we starting to see the ice pull away from shorelines? Thinking about pike fishing next weekend potentially… thoughts?
Like I said...11 to 12 more days as of my post on April 1st. By Monday April 13th it will be ready to fish. There will be some debris on the lake so take it slow and stay safe.

How’s the lake looking? Are we ice free?
Also, wondering if anyone would know what the flow is like in Rosedale for launching a boat… suspect it’s ripping pretty hard!
Like I said twice already, Balsam has been good to go since Monday. As for water flow, there has been more than 50mm of rain the last three days and it's still raining. Water flow can change quickly in the spring just like the weather. Saturday and Sunday will be windy with waves and higher water flow. There is a flood warning in place for the Kawarthas. My advice would be to check the advisories before making the drive up to the lake. Spring is unpredictable, stay safe. Water flows are up in many areas in the Kawarthas. There is flooding and flood warnings from Peterborough to Mindon to North Bay to northern Ontario and Quebec.
