If anyone is planning on going fishing this weekend, you might want to rethink your destination. Many communities are either flooded, or going to be flooded very soon in cottage country. First Responders have their hands full already in some communities. Please don't block the roads or boat launches, as they may be needed for emergency crews. If you are going out on the water, make sure you have all the safety gear and wear a PFD. There is a ton of debris in the water from the flooding. The water is high, fast and cold, it can overcome and kill you in a few minutes. Last year cottage country had to deal with the ice storm and it's aftermath. We all assisted in the clean up of our small communities. Also, we will never forget the help of some amazing volunteers and the great Hydro workers. These same small communities will be assisting each other again during this flooding, and after. Careless people putting themselves in harms way can overload the capacity of First Responders to attend an emergency in time. Please don't be part of the problem, if you don't have to travel to these flooded communities, stay home. I am sure nobody wants to be the reason for a preventable tragedy. The warnings have been issued, it's all over the news. It's been raining for days and there is still snow melting. Common sense says there is danger near or on the water this week. There is no excuse for saying..."I didn't know." Simple rule, stay away, Stay safe.
