Trout fishing, Got up to the cottage

I had a couple spare days and havent been open water trout fishing yet this spring so I came up to the cottage for a couple days to give it a go.

I got here about 1:30 and loaded up the canoe and left right away and was fishing by 2:30 in one of my favorite splake lakes.It was very windy so I could only troll because as soon as I quit paddling to cast to shore the canoe would get turned around.I trolled until 6:00 before I got a tap. I trolled back through the area and after a couple more taps I finally hooked up. After a great fight I oanded an 18 inch splake. I trolled the same area and kept picking up fish.
After an hour I had my limit of splake…. 5 gorgeous trout between 18-20 inches!I pulled out and got back to the cottage to clean fish.
What a great afternoon of trout fishing.

Very nice trip and pictures. Have you ever caught a natural splake in any of the lakes up there? I know they are rare, only a few lakes have them.

That's nice haul of tasty fish! Congrats on successful opening! How do you know that's splake, not a laker? I always have hard times to be sure...

I’ve always heard they are sterile and cant reproduce but that being said I have found immmature eggs in them while cleaning. I dont think I could tel the difference between a natural or a stocker as they are not fin clipped.

All that being said they are my favorite fish to eat bar none.

If you lookk closely at the picture of the fish on the cleaning table the tails are not as deeply forked as a lake trout.
