As many of you know, in addition to being an aging fisherman, I'm also a square dance caller and my wife is a very good fiddler.

For the last 4 years, to celebrate Fiddle Day,(the third Saturday in May) we have organized a FIDDLE JAM/OLD TIME DANCE/SQUARE DANCE, to raise funds for COPE Service Dogs. Last year, we raised $5,500 and this gave us a 4 year total of just over $15,000.

Our 5th Annual event will be held on May 16, 2026, and we have set a goal for this year of $6,000--$6,500. This year we approached more Companies than we usually do to become donors and we have had considerable success. Advance donations are already at $5,488, with $4,200 of that coming from businesses. All this has been accomplished without a music note played or a dance step taken.

We don't charge admission for the event, but ask for donations to COPE Service Dogs.

Once again, we expect to have 6 or 7 Labrador Retreivers there on the 16th.

If you are a dog lover and aren't fishing or hunting on the 16th, come and see some great dogs and hear some good music and do some dancing.

In tha past a number of members have donated, even though they were not able to atend the event. Donations of $20.00 or more qualify for a tax receipt.

Below is the event flyer with all the details. Second picture is a map of how to get to Eady Community Hall and how to donate electronically. The 3rd picture is the dogs that will be there this year. Steve, sorry no yellow dogs.

Any questions, put up a post or send me a PM.

SDC (Ralph)

Ralph, it to bad I live so far away, or there'd be a yellow dog there. Your 1st picture in this thread has yellow beauties. I will be donating for your cause again this year.

I know fiddleville in Shelburne seems to have gone the way of the Dodo since COVID. Is this something similar? Either way sounds like a great time. I will probs be up at Nip that weekend unfortunately.

I will keep it in mind for next year as the company that i own always sets some money aside to sponsor community events like this. This year we are sponsoring at some local and local ish rodeos. Love the small town rodeos - much more fun than any of the fall fairs in recent years. Being a sponsor i get tickets that i typically give away to low income families that otherwise cannot afford to go.

In 2023 my company operated and setup the water system for free for the International Plowing Match in Amaranth as our contribution to the local community/economy - it was an important one as it was right after COVID.

Hi Species

Thank you for your comments and offer for next year. It is not a replacement for Shelburne. That was a fiddle competition, with no focus on dancing and square dancing.

My "fiddler wife" does not like fiddle contests because it involves subjectivity. Before getting into fiddling and square dancing after we retired, we were very involved with amateur sports car racing and rallying--no subjectivity involved there. My wife loves to play for dances and square dances and is an excellent dance fiddler, who can keep the same speed for extended periods, not like some fiddlers who tend to "speed up" as they go along.

The following explains "Fiddle Day" and how we have embraced it.

I have sent you a PM about next year.

Thanks for the PM.

I will be in touch in January.

I do a monthly e-mail Newsletter about fiddling & square dancing. I will add you to my mailing list so you will know what is going on.

Update as of May 15.

It is going to be a great day tomorrow. WE set a fundraising goal of $6,000 this year and we have had unprecedented Corporate support of more than $4,000 and with advance individual support we are at a pre-event total of $6,083.

Not a music note played or a dance step taken yet.

We should hit $7,000.

Wow, that will put us over $22,000 for the 5 years we have done this.
