COLLINGWOOD REPORT JULY 24, 2 FOR 3--IST GB BROWN TROUT

Nice day to be out. Not much wind and a pleasant temp.

First fish, a 5lb laker was in the boat by 10am. We were marking fish and bait at various depths and I was running my ball at 65ft in 125fow, hoping for rainbow, but no it was a laker. Came on one of my Luhr Jensen Shoehorn spoons. It's in the pic. I was surprisd to catch a laker that high in the water column while trolling.

While we continued to mark fish, no other action until around Noon when my rod fired. I was fishing at 100ft in 110fow. Fish came in fairly easily and I thought another laker, until it got to within 50ft of the boat. Then the fun began. When we could finally see the fish, it still looked like a laker, but when we got it right to the side of the boat, we could see it was a brown trout--7.5lbs. First one i have ever caught on GB. What a pretty fish. It came on another of my LJ Shoehorn spoons--wonder bread. It's in the pic. They will be meeting Mr. Bradley on Sunday.

Had another hit just as we were packing up at 1:30, but it was on and then gone.

Wow! Nice fish..

I have never caught a GB Brown in all my years of river fishing the GB Tribs.

Although my catch stats are quite dated..

I have caught steelhead, chinooks, coho, pink salmon and splake (back when they used to stock them). Never a brown trout, nor did I see anyone else catch one, fishing the GB trib crowds. Talking about splake, my biggest was from Thornbury, years ago at about 7 lbs.

Even fishing some headwaters, I only ever caught Brook trout.

I did catch one brown trout fishing the Saugeen, upper stretches.. That's it..
But this is a Lake Huron trib (techniquely same lake as GB, but southern GB, no Browns in my adventures or years past...)

So IMO, a rare catch indeed. Well done sir, beautiful fish.

Others who fish regularly might have more incite. Just my experience.

That's cool to catch a brown trout.
In all the years of downrigging in the great lakes and georgian bay I have yet to catch one out in the boat.
I have caught them in rivers and a real nice one years ago tossing spoons from shore by Douglas point.

Ralph sounds like you had great weather and fishing. That brown in a chunky one. I have only caught one brown and it was on a smaill inland lake that not supposed to have them. Good job

That is one well fed brown! Congrats!

I caught one off Collingwood a number of years back while trolling for rainbows in the spring. I had to do a double take - was not expecting that.

Looks like you've been having a great year so far. Hopefully you can get out a few more times.
