Last night, full moon crappie fishing., Trip #9

Last of the July full moon. A bit of a breeze to start off, kept the mosquitoes away from us. Lots of moonlight, only used the headlamps to remove hooks. It was mostly crappie and rock bass, a few walleye but they were too thin to keep. Cranks baits and the Joker plastic caught all the fish. We had the boat in 10 fow but the baits were very, very shallow. A lot of fish were breaking the surface to snatch bugs off the water.

Another...my friend kept a dozen and I kept ten. Lost count of how many we caught from around 10pm until 4am. Lost count of the rock bass as well. LOL.

Your photography skills have come a long way....only the fish are crappy now.

You said it Fozzy. Always nice to have a family dinner of fresh fish. Lucky we all like it cooked the same, on the BBQ.

In three weeks we will see the Crappie, perch and walleye start to school up and move toward shallower waters, in the Kawartha Lakes. The muskie will follow as the water temperatures start to drop. These fish movements are triggered by the early autumn east winds. I have posted on these east winds before, and they are on the way. It was a hot summer, but so far it looks like a normal cool down to fall.

By the first week of September, these same fish will start feeding a lot to fatten up for winter.

Around the second week of September the fish will be all over the place. Weather and wind changes bringing in a wet and dry fall. One day the fish will be at the bottom of the weed line in 15 to 20 FOW...The next they will be up in the weeds in 10 to 15 FOW.

After that, the fish will consistently be inside this blue line cruising the weed lines. During the day will be the perfect time of year for those of you who like to troll or fast-cast for muskie. Or slow troll or slow-cast for walleye and crappie. Just outside and above the weeds, no need to be fishing down inside the weed beds. Pulling weeds off hooks all day, just wastes half your valuable fishing hours. At night these fish will be right where the green meets the red in shallow water. Again...No need to be fishing down in the weeds, especially at night. Just try and touch the tops of the weeds with your baits. The only time I would be in the weeds a bit, would be with a minnow under a bobber. Not to deep, just a bit.
