Hi All
I've never been to this lake and by looking at the charts it is pretty shallow. I have a few questions and maybe the answers will help me make a decision. 1) At this time of year is it all weeded up similar to Scugog? 2) Is the long channel to the north (Trent Canal System) fishable or is the boat traffic just to much, thinking of a Tuesday fishing day. 3) At this time of year and with the heat should we expect much at all? 4) Was thinking of trying to do some fly fishing out of the boat, planning on using bass or pike size flies for a bit of fun, any thouhts?
I've been to Balsam and other Kawartha Lakes, just looking for something new or different.

If this is the same waterbody I'm thinking of there is pike and bass when I fished it it was quite weedy except for where the canal is. Id you can find a deeper area on the map i would target that area

It's my least favourite lake in that entire chain. IIRC, there is one non-canal spot that is about 6' deep, and then the rest of the lake is 4' deep or less, mostly weeds and stumps. Never had very much luck there personally, whether fishing in the spring or summer.

Haven't had much luck in Mitchell even though it looks very much prime for bass and pike. Seen a few caught from shore near the canal passage under the road. The south side is stump heaven, but have never thrown a line in that area to say if it holds fish or is even navigable with a boat.

Hi All
Thanks for all the info, keep it coming. I am going to follow your info and basically fish the channel but will be casting spinner baits into the stumps and weeds. As well, I will be trying fly fishing over the weeds and stumps for a change, hope to have some luck, never tried this before, was always a stream fly fisher. Will post a follow up, going to go Friday Aug 21.
Thanks

Hi All
Ended up going as originally planned on Tuesday (yesterday). Overall feeling was it was a wasted day. Just looking at the overall lake looks like it should be really fishy, but they must have all gone on vacation because no fish were around. Drove all the way up the channel to the locks and fishwd our way back, then into the part below the road and nothing there either. Was surprised to see the channel was only 6 - 7 ft deep, expected maybe twice that and the other water was around 4 ft. I guess it was al pretty warm after this summer ans the weeds are everywhere. At least I've got that out of my system, can move on to other new water or stay with the tried and true ones. Did enjoy the drive, have never been in that area before and the beer and nachos at Tar'd and Feather'd in Beaverton hit the spot.
