Hi widone (Bill), nice to have met you (and your wife) last night at the Fallsview Casino. After I with wife left you, did you get any luck on YOUR side and win anything big?;-)

It's 6:40AM in the morning right now, and I am about to sneak out, and head to that Queenston dock to try MY luck, then...

I was there yesterday, 5 boats fishing and lots from shore
go to Queenston, turn at the Fire hall that will take you to the boat lunch and you can fish from shore

Hey james, I've been offline for a day or 2 so just saw this now.

Wished you would have called me or something.

All the advice to date is good enough to get you started .except for one thing.

parking and access at queenston is tricky after a snow fall.

Unless you have a 4 wheeler do not go down to bottom parking lot!

Another consideration to rethink is your leader/line/dropper weight ratios.

everyone uses line weights that are too lite for the Niagara.i used to do the same.

result ifd not only fish brekoffs , but a lot of lead and such on the bottom.

This fall I tried a new method........when river condtions were up to 4 foot visibilty.

main line....30 braid

droper line 20-25

leader 14-17

guess what.zero differnece in hookups and best of all ZERO weight loss and minimal terminal tackle loss, at the most hooks broke or straightned out.

we tried this for several days with others using traditional lighter lines etc.....the heavier stuff produced more fish because of less time retying, ease of poppoing off "snags" and ease of getting ifhs to baot, release and get back at it

this was a bit of a revelation for me and I will continue to use this when appropriate. And oh ya, you can put the blocks to any fish hookups also.

Thanks Longshank, though you did come a bit late (I mean when I needed you the most):-).

By the way, with lots of snow covering the deep slope, I did manage driving my Jetta with a set of brand-new winter tires all the way down to the bottom of that Queenston Boat ramp, and parked right by the water:

Too bad I didn't get any fish. But I am still learning how to river fish for trout, and I did enjoy the fishing this morning, though it was a bit too cold.

(PS: Just got back home about half an hour ago)
