Well it ain't easy but having kids who flip this stuff around like nothing helps. I use both for business as well, even tho I am semi retired. Years ago manuf. had books, now they email the stuff to ya. I got the tablet because it is easier to read ( I hate getting old ) than the phone. And I have to decipher wiring diagrams for electronic components. But I decided to use this stuff for important stuff like hunting and fishing. Makes the investment work like "Freedom 60 something"

For those that are new to GPS charts you may like to get a book like "The Weekend Navigator" Or try these sites

http://www.charts.gc.ca/charts-cartes/upda...isajour-eng.asp

http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/charts.htm

http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/updates/LNM_NM.html

1. Keep in mind that your GPS Data is paper chart data enhanced and digitized.
2. They may only update charts info every 10 yrs or so. Unless critical (Garmin, Lowrance or any other GPS have to get buy the data from whomever supply's it in the appropriate country).
3. What you see on paper and on your GPS may be as much as twelve yrs diff in date (the present lake depths will not be on your GPS data yet so be alert and use your depth sounder) I carry paper charts and pencil in depth updates.
4. Most good GPS's should get you to an accuracy of 10-30ft.

I hope this helps the newbies and should give you a working knowledge, the rest is practise, practise, trial and error.

Good luck
Patrick

Furlong,
This site should help you. I have an android app for the Assus Eee-Pad It works great. I have Google earth as well I think somehow they work together. Bye the way mine cost $59.00, but it looks the same as the one I paid $200.00+ on my boat GPS

Does navionics show longitude and latitude oce you drop a pin on your hotspot? I also haven't figured out how to even drop a pin yet ... This gps stuff is confusing for me.
