if you are stupid enough to go out onto the ice when it is +11 out and what little ice there is has an inch of water on it, your going to get people's ire. These individuals not only risked their lives, but the lives of the emergency personal that needed to go onto the ice/water to rescue them. Each year people think they are better than the warnings and "nothing will happen to them". The only way to get through is with hefty fines and making them pay for the cost of the rescue. Absolutely zero sympathy will be given.

I too think it is stupid to be out on Cooks Bay when they didnt even have that much ice to begin with... The price should be handed over to them but that wont happen... With all this talk of unsafe ice, I was out in Port Bolster today and the ice was fine...about 6 inches of shitty ice... lots of guys out all the hut operators out 3 four wheelers and a couple of argos.... the rain and warm weather doesnt affect the ice as much as some people think... just cause your from the city you should stay there and not venture out... if your a local and monitor the conditions everyday and know this lake you'll be fine.... the temps will get cold this week and the ce will be fine this week and weekend in port Bolster and Virginia....

I agree with you,I stayed home today just to be on the safe side,I knew the ice would hold at port bolster but was concerned about the shore holding up,no need to get a soaker going home.I was out 3 times this week so my fix was satisfied

I said to my wife at 2 minutes to 6pm, "put the CTV Barrie News on as I want to find out where the idiots went thru the ice today". At that time I wasn't aware of anybody going thru, but I just knew there would be people going thru. They did not disappoint me!!!
Many people have an appalling lack of knowledge and understanding about ice.
I looked at a post on another Board yesterday and they were warning to stay off the ice today. The comment was made," that 10inch hole today(Friday) will be 24 inches by Saturday morning".
Some "Darwin" posted, "you mean 2-4inches don't you?"
A subsequent post explained to him that the water running off the ice would erode the hole overnight. This "Darwin" didn't know anything about the effects of water runoff and obviously thought new ice would be forming overnight???????
The only thing in his favor, he had enough sense to be involved with a Board and he could get advice.
On the other hand, how many are out there without computers and no knowledge of the fishing Boards or no interest in checking with people who know.
It is unfortunate that these "clowns" give all of us a bad name, no matter how responsibly we act.
