I am glad everyone is alright. This could have been a very tragic story, but thanks to the quick and efficient efforts of the rescue crews everyone is ok. I applaud and praise the rescue workers. About being on the thin ice, no comment from me, I am speechless.

I know we are all itching to go out at the start of the season, but let's just wait a couple weeks and be safe or drive a lot further north. By the end of next week, cold temps will have fixed the ice. Glad everyone is ok, but the will probably be fined$$$ and maybe justifiably.

I don't know if more education would help people that decide to go out on unsafe ice. I mean if you put a sign down there that said "UNSAFE ICE STAY OFF" these people would probably still go out on the ice anyways.
There has been warnings on every message board, the news and word of mouth from other people in the ice fishing community.
How much more would someone need to know that the ice would not be safe this weekend?
I say that there should be a "set fine" for people who decide to put their own life's and others at risk if they are going to be rescued off of lake simcoe. They should broadcast it all over the news and tell people that if they are going to have to be rescued off the lake they will have to pay big time cash.
If it was gonna cost people a $1000.00 to be rescued then maybe they would decide other wise to go out on unsafe ce conditions.
Admin is totally right tho, it's a good thing that someone's life was not lost in these events that unfolded yesterday. That's all that really matters in a situation like this,is that everyone is safe and unharmed. (except for their pride)
Let's hope we don't have to hear about something like this again on simcoe ever.

if you are going to go fishing without an operator who is knowledgeable and trained at least have the right gear on and have a buddy system and a plan! STAY SAFE!

Gonna sound like a real hard nose here, but my opinion is that fines don't work. Too many people have more money than brains. Want to fix this problem? If you go on the ice when you have been officially warned to stay off, no rescue. You are on your own. They will either smarten up and pay attention, or Mother Nature will do it through natural selection.
