I fished from very early this morning until a little after noon time. But no, I was not ice fishing. I was shore fishin'!:-)
And I saw lots of people shore fishing Lake Simcoe for perch, too, and there are some jumbo perch caught from almost everyone, and there are lots of lots of herrings caught. Me, and a few guys fishing next to me together must have caught around 20 herrings, all on minnows.
Caught a herring:
Some people were fishing on private property, I think (I thought they'd get some ticket and fine:-):

So, I win my bet with myself that you would go to the Barrie Docks and that you would catch fish. I must say, I didn't expect the Herring to be in there though, I still learn something every day. Thanks for the report James and the always fine pics.

Yes, you got that right, and you did win your bet. I needed the fix with or without ice;-)
And yes, there were lots of herrings caught. Some of them caught were around 3 lbs....

Over in the Whitey/Lakers stocks? topic you can read the response I got today from Wil Wegman at the MNR. Don't expect an open season any time soon for Herring, still basically only two successful year classes.

Nice going James. Looks like you had some company. A beautiful day out to enjoy the outdoors.
Ha. Actually I was fishin' alone at the spot early in the morning, though later lots of guys joined me (on my left and on my right standing about 2 feet from me;-), and "squeezed" me to "accompany" me to the point I could barely cast my line no more;-)
