Hey Guys,

I have never been to Bay of Quinte area but I have heard really good things about the ice fishing there. Does anyone have advise on where to start out in this area for ice fishing?

Hi.......it's in the wrong place, but go to the lake Simcoe section of this site and scroll down and you will see a post about Bay of Quinte where some of us are asking the very same question as you.

Big Bay, Potters creek(between trenton and belleville) and Onderdonks(south shore of trenton bay) are generally the safest ice in the area and there's always fish in all spots. I would advise waiting a few weeks and watching the temps here in belleville. we were +3 today and rain, the ice that we do have now is very soft. Quinte ice changes daily there is lots of current to watch out for here, don't assume the ice is good just because you see guys out.

Alright thanks Guys,

I will be sure to do my research before going out and will definitely check the ice conditions.

Beaner is correct the ice can be very unsafe there. The currents can be strong making the ice change thickness very quickly. It can go from 8" to 3" in a matter of feet depending on where you are. I would advise going with someone who has already been.

do sheep head bite through the ice here ? in the summer I get a lot of them trying for walleye. just wondering if it's the same in the winter. would be a pretty crazy fight.

I never caught a sheephead through the ice. But it would be a crazy fight! Not to mention, how would you get those huge wide fish through the hole?

If you get drum when walleye fishing it tells me you are drift fishing or trolling too slow. About ice not sure. Would be like a carp

I can add that it may be the water body being fished as well.

I know dozens of Us charters down by Ohio that smash walleye quite well, but still pick up sheephead.

Fishing for salmon in front of say the Niagara Bar in the fall at speeds of 2.4-2.8 still get pounded by odd sheephead..big ones!

So general 'rules' may apply, but often fish do not ever read them
