Try a sweedish pimple or similar spoon with the treble swapped for a single hook tipped with a slimy slice of fresh clam meat.

The salt pork works and a piece that costs under $2 at the grocery store has last me two years. I still use minnows but when they are not producing then the salt pork comes out.

I tie a chartreuse colored buckshot on the bottom & add a second plain hook up about 12". Tip each hook with a minnow. Does the trick for me.
My newfie buddy uses salt pork for walleye as well. First time I saw it; I said what the heck!! 10 minutes later he's got a nice walleye in the boat!

Yup clam meat works great. Its very slimy and fishy smelling. Go to sobey's or the like and get the biggest ones they got. Open em up and cut the meat into small strips. Toss them in a ziplock or whatever and your good to go.

i like the buck shot on bottom and single part way up thats a good idea,,i have friends that tie on william spoon to line couple feet up then single on bottom,,when water is murky...
