Hi Folks:

Took a drive to check out the lake/ice conditions this afternoon.

It looks like the ice is really trying to form, however, the wind was basically stirring "things" up.

Stood on the permanent dock in Island Grove and I was nearly blown off but I was able to determine there is still a large drift of ice chunks along the mainland shore line which extends out approximately 150 feet. There is also ice along the shoreline of Snake Island but it was hard to determine how far it extended into the channel. The channel between the mainland and Snake Island was completely open and the wind was stirring up white caps.

There was an ice bridge between Roches Point which appeared to extend to the S.W. tip of Snake Island. I have no idea who thick the ice was in this area but I suspect it wasn't very thick.

I could not see very far beyond Roches Point because there was snow falling in the top of Cook's Bay.

Drove along the lake from Island Grove to Jackson Point and the conditions were poor to say the least and in fact I observed 2 - 3 foot white cap waves hitting the beach at Willow Beach and LaSalle Beach.

In my honest opinion the lake/ice is not safe in these areas. I believe the ice is starting to form and it won't be long but I won't be attempting to head out on the ice anytime soon.

That's all for now, Nancy
