Slab Grabbers, Need to add any bait?

I'm going to try a slab grabber this Thursday. Do I need a minnow or just jig it? Fishing in Casey's Huts.

Tried one first time on Saturday...certainly drew attention on the bottom, with the odd hit. The perch that day were not biting ANYTHING other than real minnows, so it may not be a fair judgment. I do look forward to trying it bare when the fish are a bit more aggressive, just love the action of it

Use the slabgrabber as your weight (nothing added)instead of a bell sinker and use a drop shot hook 1 foot above with a tube,slammer ,minnow head etc to see what the fish want that day.good luck Alan

I usally use the slab grabber to get there attention . Then with secound rod next to me I nail them on a two way spreader tipped off with minnow . Bigger jumbos are usally tight to bottom that's why I use the 2 way spreader . Helps keep the little guys away as well .

Garry it doesn't matter if you keep it tight on the bottom or just off the bottom i personally would keep it just off the bottom making it hit the bottom every so often

ctallman we use just the slab grabber jig it when the big ones come in if you find they are not aggressive stop jigging and just let it sway back slowly giving it a little shake you will find they attack it most often ,i have fish with the manufacture of slab grabbers when they come up and thats how they work it. hope this helps

I've taken thebead off some older ones and put on a trgger x egg instead...........helps in certain scenarios.

When sight fishing, most of the hit come when the grabber is alsmost motionless.

I only use the slabgrabber when fishing is slow. They do attract the perch... But when the action is hot I use the rap. Slabgrabber goes down slow and almost never straight down. Fishing in a hut with others become annoying always trying to get the lure to drop the right direction. Also the flasher never picks it up. So you do have to let it drop to the ground and bring it up than wait for it to get under the hole.

Tip it with a minnow head... They hold on a second longer on days the fish are finicky.

I usually keep the spreader tight to the bottom . You can even bounce of bottom to stir up some sand. I find it makes the bigger fish more curious on what's going on.

Another thing to keep in mind with the spreader is to re - tie the garage line and hooks it comes with . Make sure you keep the hook facing up tight to the metal loop . Trick is also to have pliers handy to squeeze and twist the metal eye hole so the hooks are face up .....Never have a issue hooking a whitie or any other fish in the top lip.....


Two spreader is the way to go. Nick @ True Canadian Outdoors has the best deals around for just a naked two way spreader. Don't have to buy the ones already pre- tied with garbage hooks on them from sub-zero. Nick has some tough ###### spreaders and easy to work with when attaching your hooks and line ......
