Keep it locked. At least the reasonably honest people will stay out.

It's not the reasonably honest that you need to keep out.

We keep ours locked with a deadbolt and 1 1/4" angle iron to stop a prybar......that said the punks used an axe to go through the wall beside the door. We still lock it but leave the curtains open so they can see that there is nothing to steal . They got a jiffy ice auger that was really hard to start and I hope they had a heart attack trying to start it.

Unlocked..the honest people use it and dont abuse it..And the rotten one leave it a mess with anything you can imagine...but at least I have a door on the hut when I get there..I use a portable most of the time anymore because of the later ones

We ran huts for 10 years on cooks bay. Leave the hut unlocked with nothing in it! Take your heater, rods etc out each time and leave it. If there is nothing to take you wont have an issue. sometimes guys out there just want to get out of the wind if it gets nasty and they are sledding or fishing outside...if you lock it guys that are looking to steal will get in.....

I would leave it unlocked and empty so that there is nothing to steal. My buddie locked his and he had nothing in it but they broke in and broke the benches and windows. That's why we bought protable Clam huts don't need to worry about someone braking in.
