Ice Augers, gas leakage

HI Gang,

Newbie to Ice Augers....concerned about gas leaking etc, starting problems, etc due to laying auger on side during tranpsort to the ice and on the ice.

Other than the obvious keeping cap tight, any does and dont.s tips, etc..

I have the same problem. I got a new cap but it still leaks. The best I've been able to do is keep the tank less than half full. It's an old machine I got from the oldman after getting him a new one. Had it serviced and everything. I think its coming from the carb so I try to keep the full outlet above the fuel level. Kinda works.

Can you not remove the auger from the motor, so that the motor sits up properly??

I don't have a gas auger, but separating the two would make sense to me....

Most caps have a vent screw. check to see if its closed when not running or if the small gasket is cracked when closed.

Actually I do not have a leakege problem yet, just need some input on how you travel with your augers to prevent issues.

Yes, I could take blade off and sit motor upright. Seems like a pain.. Do other s do this???

I actually have a brand new eskimo Mako 43cc.

The cap does not have a vent screw so I assume it is self venting?

I assume you need to cap tight but not too tight to prevent cracking gasket/oring

I take my auger off and travel with the motor upright. I don't find it to bad to set up. I'm just dragging a toboggan, so no major bouncing.

When ever I store or transport my auger on my atv I keep carb side up this keeps the gas from gravity draining through the carb, hope this helps.

Get a cover for your engine, if at all possible put a small gas shut off on the gas line to stop gas from draining out from your carb, keep cap tight and put a small towel in the cover to stop any gas that may spill during transport.

Thanx for the post/ideas. I have the same problem with gas leakage while travelling with my auger mounted on the front of my ATV. My previous floater suit was stained terribly because of gas leakage. I'm heading out Friday. This time I'm going to cover the head even with a green garbage bag if necessary.
