PERCH., When Cleaning them ?

How come when I was cleaning my Jumbo Perch they still have white maggots or worms in them ?


Is it because they are older fish ? Hot summers ?



Never seen this before in fish from winter ?

I think it is a warm water thing, and last summer the water got damn hot. I couldn't believe the number of worms in the perch from couch this winter.

had this happen a few times. I find its usually perch from shallow water. Its safe as long as you cook them well. No sushi perch fillets! doesn't taste any different.

oh ya! not harmful to humans at all. I don't bother picking them out anymore, but you can if you want.

Believe they are most commonly called yellow grub.

Just some extra protein Very common in Perch from Couch, not quite so many in the north end of Simcoe and very few in the south end.

keep the maggots and try using them as bait???

Hey Dan; Yup almost every perch I caught in couch had worms Yet off Lefroy and IBP nary a worm,As mentioned it's most likely a warmer water thing but it sure doesn't make a filet look very appealing ,but they are safe to eat....

If you really don't want hem, save them , I need quality fish food for my Anglefish.

Wouldn't they cause parasite in your stomach ?


I know the black worms are worse . Usually found in bass on hot summer days.


You figure with the cold weather / water they would die off ? They were like little balls and when you pick at them they open up ..... yuck ! Rather feild dress a deer .loll

Honestly, I can't give you an answer as I have not encountered that with perch where I normally fish for them..........meaning deeper water when i can get to it

As far as I know they are harmless and will not hurt you.

I'ts not just that appealing for sure.

Gave my neighbour some as well . He said just pick them out and there fine. I would imagine if you fry them they should die of in pan .

When I head back out there and catch / clean another one with them I will test one fillet by opening it up after cooking it with flower and see if they are still there . loll


My dads polish friend from work said just eat them . That means the fish is healthy .

Just as a precaution, drink a 1/2 bottle of Vodka before consumtion and then fisnish the bottle after.no worries then
