Can you believe how awesome the fishing has been since the opener?!!! This year has been fantastic! The reports all month long have been keeping people awake at night waiting for their time to get up there and get in on the action, including myself.

The only hick-up was a week ago... the day of my arrival (of course). The wheather man says a high pressure cold front would be sweeping the northern part of Ontario; and we all know what that means...

Split shot, hook and spring bobber were my only options I could combat the artic blast!

How cold?

Lets just say -33 was our warmest day! and -37 was our coldest... now factor in the windchill and you got yourself one heck of a booger freeze!

When we arrived, there was 8" of ice and within departing 3 days later... the ice more than doubled in thickness!

As for the fishing? Well lets just say I further fine tuned down to a coloured hook with a tiny minnow on my dead stick while jigging various 1/8oz and 1/16oz flash spoons tipped with minnow parts.

The fishing during witching hours was so furious ... the lake gave us 150+ perch, 28 walleye, 1 pike and 2 cisco. Hows that for a cold front! I'm tickled pink! No complaints here.

Good luck to all of you who are still waiting for your days to get up there, I hope I’ve caused you some more sleepless nights and anxiety.

Good luck!

Nice report. Sunset pic is awesome! Way to work in the tough cold conditions. The days when your holes freeze over in 15 minutes and your beer turns to slush in 10. Nicely done

5 smallies! Geez. Have never caught one in the winter in my life. How deep were you?

Great report liltoes, looks like you guys were on the fish. Great pictures.

We just got back from 4 days at Idle Tyme on deep water point, we had a pretty good weekend as well. We caught one smallie as well, seems odd to be catching bass ice fishing but we have been catching them the last couple of years up there.

JayRay, we were in 28-30'. All smallies hit in the morning on spoons except the pictured one the wife is holding; split-shot and minnow. Good fight too!Never expected bass through the ice.
