Swedish Pimple, Losing fish left and right

Was getting steady bites all day Saturday using a green Swedish Pimple with a small Casey's minnow. Problem is, I am only reeling in about 10-20% of the fish on the bites I am getting.

Is this normal? If not, what the heck am I doing wrong?

My assumption was that the majority of the bites were just dinks that were too small for the hook.

Help, comments, tips, advice?

sounds like dinks.i start jigging a little faster and sometimes a liitle higher to get the aggressive ones to bite.

Hey Mac..
Try changing the hook to a single #6 ;Ive even pinch down the barb for easy release of dinks.

Try sight fishing for perch in clear water,the dinks will come up to the minnow and only get half in their mouth (that's usally when we set the hook) and the minnow tears off or they hang on for a bit but still get off before the surface...we can learn a lot by sight fishing...IMHO

I am assuming the trebles are supe sharp as well. if not change them up and go slightly larger.

Like Steelheader said, sight fishing realy shows how youneed to work lures to attrack fish and how they bite as well.

We were at Caseys on Saturday too, kept only 5 perch 10-12inches, the rest were small, three caught on a macho minnow treble, most of the dinks were caught on smaller single hook jigs/minnow (baby minnow I might add), we also caught 8 herring on the same outfits. Very slow day in general.

Had the same problem yesturday. What I found was the perch was jusy engulfing the bait and holding on. Had to switch to tipping with bits of minnowand setting the hook a bit harder. Ended up putting 2 800 gram bags of fillets in the freezer.

Change the hook to a single barbed hook tipped of with a smaller minnow . If water levels are good site seeing them is a bonus !!!
