little lake ice fishing., tips to be shared on the hard water.

hey guys, i'm new to this site and i thought my first post would be something that ive been thinking about. i fished little lake last winter a lot and had non stop action for pike. no trouble catching them. what id like to know is how to target the panfish. what to use and where to go to catch these crappies and such. ive also heard that you'll catch the odd walleye? not to sure.

ive caught alot for perch and crappie their,the problem is ive lossed a lot of jigs when fishing panfish to pike ,basicly you need to drop your line down to at lease 4 pound test or less or tipp up with florocarbon thiers a few spots that i found their wasent much pike action and i was able to catch a few,crappie are suspended in the water colum so good eletronics help to, if not just fish the water colum droping jig down a foot,then a nother and so on. ive caught alot of crappie just under the ice about a ft down.they can be tricky and you my need to move alot to find them.i use gill pills in perch pattern small spoons,small jigging rapalas.and tiped with ethier a small minnow(pin head)or maggots or waxxes.

i just started fishing little lake through the ice last year and i think its a lot of fun. Im still not sure on what lures to try for pike because I've only caught pike on live bait. Do any of u have any suggestions on lures to try?

i use a perch pattern dart rap with ball barrings i catch then all the time on that or a silver and gold william spoon,also the bigger jigging rapalas perch or shad colours,,the pike in that like mainly feed on perch..my buddy kept a pike last year and its gut was full of smaller perch...but check out the dart lures and the tackle shop their pretty good

Very Isolated lake to nail pan fish there. They do have some good size Crappies.

Walleye, are in the Lake ! Not a very good population as the Pike numbers are much higher . Been fishing there as a kid and only caught 3 . Have not landed one there in the past 10 years. I don't really target them either . Mostly Pike and Crappie .

For Lures , anything that immatates a minnow or perch colours work well there .



Any ice reports ?

i check this morning 4"inches of ice where i was wasent out very far maybe 150 feet from shore,,lots of travel marks in snow..

thanks a lot for the feedback guys! i probably going out tomorrow, with the ice being 4 inches, is that safe enough for little lake? i saw a vid on youtube showing the lake and there were a good 8 portable huts and maybe two permanents.

Guys, anyword on water clarity? Last year i fished there and water was very murky. would just save me a lot of trouble dragging my portable out thats all. I only use it to sight fish, thanks.

the hole i drilled today i dident see any murky but i wasent out very far,4"-is safe to walk on but dont put a snowmoblie on it on it,your best bet would be to drill a few holes as you walk out to make sure it stay in the 4-5 inch range..or spud,there was lots of huts out there so iwould amagine its good.be safe go with a buddy.

Crappie and perch generally stay close to shallow weedy areas. These areas might seem odd to fish, some of the best crappie fishing i've ever done was in 4-6ft of water. Drill lots of holes and try lots of different shallow depths and colour combos. Find the one that works and stick to it. I will usually switch between small tubes and synthetic baits with a jig.

This method is for smaller lakes. Simcoe you can use an empty hook and still come home with dinner!

I am new to Barrie and have always fished the east side of Simcoe. I am actually looking at Little Lake this year for some hard water action. Where can you legally park and/or gain access to the lake? And I know it is off topic but where can I get live bait here?

I have never been to nor fished at Little Lake (and I too, plan to try it out this winter), but I heard close to shore and at the end of Duckworth Street where it intersects with Little Lake Drive there are some parking spaces. Or if you get to that area/spot, just follow the herd, and I am sure you shall see where others park.
