Well I came home with no fish but still have a great story.
I looked away from my rod for about 30 seconds. PJ was like.. where did your rod go.. DOWN THE HOLE. Great.. So I get out a pickerel rig and add on as many hooks as i can and try to get it out. No luck. So... TWO hours later a hole about 25 yards away from this one. PJ go's to get the ice off the hole and noticed the line was heavy. You won't believe it. It was a 24.5 inch pike.. attached to his line and still had my hook in his mouth. and.. drum roll.... My fishing pole. That pike dragged my pole for two hours down there and was still hungry. he had a third hook from somehwere else in him too.
I caught three baby pickerel and threw them back. PJ caught 4 nice pickerel a pike and my rod. lol
It's a good thing I put new line and a leader on that rod the night before.

I love these stories! Same sort of thing happened to my brother years ago. Nodded off and the rod got pulled from his hand and gone. Moments later my other brother's tip up slams down. Never did land the fish but the rod was recovered. Crazy. Amazing thing about your story was it happened 2 hours later. Wild stuff!

ya crazy. the line on my rod was dirty and very tight. must have been dragging it along. I'm lucky he hit on one of our lines or some lucky fisherman would have caught my rod with that fish. lol.

Sort of have a story like that.
I was fishing channel cats with my cousin and a big one caught him off guard and ripped the pole out of his had and in the drink. He sulked the rest of the time fishing and I made sure to rib him about it as much as I could. As we got ready go he pulled up the anchor and sure enough there was some line attached to it. Rod was recovered along with a pig of a channel cat. Made for a good story back at the camp.

Another story. Doesn't involve fish but a hat
Took a friend out fishing for the first time. As we were in the boat his hat flew off. It was his favourite Oilers hat. Had it for years. We tried to find it but no luck. After a few hours of fishing in different locations we settled about a km down river and sure enough as we are fishing the hat floats right by the boat. Just reached out grabbed it. He was happy!

My story is not about a fish either but a lure
we were trolling in rice lake when my grandfather hit a snag (assuming it was a weed bed on rice) and snapped his line so we continued to troll when about an hour later he hit another snag but this time able to save it....reeled in and there was a bunch of line wrapped around one of the trebles. pulled in the rest of the line and there was the rapala he had lost an hour before, I will never forget that i thought it was hilarious. awesome how he was the one to catch it too

Ha, funny story. Glad you got your rod back in the end. We have lost a couple of rods over the years up there but have also caught a couple of rods as well. We bring a big magnet up with us now just in case.
Our funny story - we had a pike take two guys lures at the same time one year and they had to fight to see which one was going to land him.

That was good luck you and PJ seem to be having up there, I mean good that you had a hit, and nice of PJ to recover your rod for you along with a Pike. Must have been a fighter to drag your rod around for that long (getting the line all dirty)
My Uncle was on Sincoe 2 years ago, pulled up with his sled, augered the hole; cleaned it out, dropped a spoon down for whities, set the rod on the seat to grab something and poof rod gone down the hole. He fished for another hour or so, no luck ( must have been the unlucky rod), leaves and comes back to the same spot 3 hours later, a fisherman wanders over and asks if he lost a teal blue 30 inch rod with a Abu reel he say YES a few hours ago. The guy says you can have your rod back but I'm keeping the Lake Trout that was on it.
for me set up to fish Rainbows in a small lake; set up the 1st rod (more of a jigging stick) walked like 20 ft away and my buddy says thought you were putting a rod here, gone, did not recover that 1
I believe everyone has had it happen to them or someone they know.

Could you just imagine how many rods are laying on the bottom of the lake! Gotta be tons. Not to mention needle nose plyers and sunglasses. I know I've dropped at least 5 pairs of each in there myself over the years

I got one for the ages Guys.....YOU WONT BELIEVE IT !!!!! ...Fishing about 10 years ago in my Cousins Hut on Simcoe. I pull out my large Williams Spoon and lay it on the seat cushion in the Hut, before I attached the lure to my Rod, I decide to get up to stoke the wood stove. Then I sit back down on the padded seat......OUCH !!!! There I am, all alone and it feels like all the barbs go through my one piece snow suit, right into my jeans.....so now I'm in a jam......hooks in the padded seat and in my snow suit and in my jeans, can’t move.....( stop laughing guys !! ) ...so I can’t get up, can’t see the lure, ( of course by this time I'm laughing…. Making sure I don’t bury the hooks in my butt ) .. now the seat cushion is attached to a wooded plank that is screwed into a hinged seat for storage. So I open my tackle box that was beside me, pull out my all in one screw driver and spend the next 1/2 hr or so taking the screws out of the seat hinge. ( Ended up damaging the seat a little......But !! ) - So now I get up and make myself the door with the seat hooked on my but....and make my way outside where I can stand and maneuver my suit off and pull out the hooks out of my jeans....only with a few scathes....nothing major ! No one was around so I was lucky I did not have to been seen…. ......NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY !!!! -I get everything put back in semi order, stoke the fire again, and decide to put on my spreader and fish with a tip-up in 80 feet of water for Whities..... an hour or so goes by and decide to pull out my pliers and straighten out all the hooks on the Williams that I mangles while taking out of my clothes......then it slips, I drop the Williams down the hole.......I just stared at it as it flips and rolls and droops and flutters out of site.......and again I’m laughing to myself again.....go figure !!!......Wait !!! still not the end !!! about 10 minutes later I decide to bring up my spreader to check the minnows !!!! You got it !!! The Williams was hooked on the spreader...............A story ( true ) for the ages ......I still have the Williams... !!!
