That's right. With the on-going rain and current high temperature, even if you just walk on ice, it may not be safe, either as it depends on how heavy you are (it might be safe for me myself, though:-)

I was sort of ok on the five - six inches I was on today but it'll be a few days of cold before i go back out. It's said that 4 is safe but it'll be 12" before I'm comfortable. Stay tuned to this website for daily updates.

this is the truth.
i went to big bay point today and there was only 4 inches of ice. i went out strictly because there were already huts out there and people on Atv's but man i'll tell ya, theres a wierd feeling them comes across you when you use a hand auger and are through your hole in like 5 turns while your 1 KM from land.

I did that once on black ice a few years ago........headed out and spudded 4-5 inches whole way.
Where we stopped and set-up.......just under 3 inches
Good thing my buddy weighs twice as much as me............always "lead dog"
Anyways, took a few minutes to walk back to area with thciker ice and had a good day. especially since you could see your fish way down
I will wait this year until this thaw is done and w have 5 inches or more before walking out.........and now I hate walking out/getting way harder to do
