There are some bigger ones being caught, but the ratio is not looking good to me

I agree. Those sizes comming up are either getting through the net or stock

Yup. 90 percent of what we caught 2 weeks ago were spikes. 13 inch and under. However last summer we caught a lot in the slot. Time will tell.

The smaller size walleye are there for a few reasons, 1 is to 2 good year classes of fish which are now just coming into the fishery, 2 your set-up on a school of smaller fish, walleye will school together according to size, 3 your fishing in pressured areas, the larger slot and over walleye will not be as abundant in areas that receive constant pressure. Some of my friends are getting lots of slot fish and over slot fish but they are running& gunning staying away from the crowds, bungalos and commerical day hut opperations. As for the nets, they been out there for 50yrs now and all of sudden every problem with the fishery is blamed on them. If you want bigger walleye put your beers and liquor down, get out of your huts and bungalos and go find them

There is a lot more pressure on the lake now due to over netting...just look at all the new chip stands around the area selling fresh Lake Nipissing Pickerel...

I agree that here may be some good eyes in certain areas, but you should read the fisheries mangement plan for Nipissing and you should also know that this fishery has been stressed and declining for more than a decade.

Plus you need more than 2-3 year classes for a sustainable fishery.

and harvesting 50,000 kg....sure does not help it any
